If you’re like most of us, you decided to pursue affiliate marketing to make some money. While it certainly is an excellent way to do this, there are things that can make or break your success, and choosing an affiliate niche is one of them.
Not all niches are created equally, and your ability to choose a good one will make all the difference. Here’s a look at what you need to think about when selecting a niche:
What Make a Great Niche?
Before you get too deep into analyzing the niche, you should consider if you like the niche well enough to write about it. Your niche can be profitable on paper, but if you find it boring or you simply don’t like it, you won’t be motivated enough to keep working on it. Before you get started looking at the data for a niche keep this one thing in mind – that a great niche is one where not only do the numbers check out, but that you actually are interested in it enough to spend a lot of time working on it.
Consider Going With One of the “Big Three”
Although there are plenty of topics you can make money on, there are a few niches that people always tend to crave information about. These are:
- Health – Includes health problems, special diets, weight loss, and even the body building niche.
- Wealth – Includes personal finance, investing, making money, retirement, extra income, getting a job, etc.
- Relationships – Dating, Marriage, Divorcing
- Personal Development – Law of Attraction, Positive Thinking, Developing a Success mindset, etc.
If your potential niche relates to any of those topics, chances are pretty good that they’ll make you money.
Don’t Make Your Niche Too Broad
Of course, those niches are far too broad and you’re much better off dialing things down a bit. For example, the weight loss niche would fall under “health”. Weight loss, however, is also pretty broad. Something like, “Gluten Free Weight Loss” might be a better choice, especially if you know a lot about it or are at least interested in it. Let’s say you found out that you need to eat a gluten free diet. This is a great time to get into the niche because you can write content as you learn more about it. Your audience will also appreciate being on this new journey with you because many of them will be, too.
Once you have at least a vague idea of what kind of niche you want to work with, you’re just about ready to dive in and set up your affiliate marketing business. There are still a lot of topics to cover about setting up your niche, though. I go into a lot more detail in my FREE guide – “Start Your Online Business With Affiliate Marketing.”
