No matter what the purpose of your blog or website is, there is no doubt that you will need people to visit it. Sure, you could always opt to get traffic through paid sources, like PPC or Facebook ads.
However, there are plenty of free methods that work, as well. In fact, you don’t need to spend money on paid sources at all if you don’t want. You can turn your blog or website into a success without them. Here’s a look at some of the strategies I like to use in order to get free traffic.
Write Engaging Content
Good content is at the core of your online marketing strategy. When content is engaging, it adds value to the lives of those who read it. When people are happy with your content, they’ll be more likely to spend a long time on your website reading your other articles. They also would be more likely to sign up for your newsletter and even to return to your website at another time. Your traffic won’t be worth anything to you if the people who land on your website aren’t happy with what they see!
Optimize for the Search Engines
Before you do anything else, you should make sure that your website is optimized for the search engines. We won’t go into too much detail here, but in general, you’ll want to make sure that all the content on your pages achieves its desired purpose. For example, by reading the title of this article, you have the expectation that it will offer strategies for getting free traffic. As a writer, I know how to create content that achieves its purpose so that the reader isn’t disappointed. If you don’t understand anything else about SEO, remember this one thing: If your content matches people’s expectations for the page, you will naturally write with correct keywords. You are much better off taking this approach than making it overly complicated. However, it couldn’t hurt to put some thought into your keywords if know what you’re doing. Use Social Media
Social media can offer another way to give you some traffic. There is a lot to be said about social media but at the bare minimum, you should at least share all of your new content on the website as it is published. If you enjoy interacting with people on certain platforms, such as twitter and instagram, you can certainly take your social media marketing a step further. Just be careful not to spend too much time on social media. Not all traffic that social media attracts will be high quality. Stick with making posts about your niche so that you can attract your potential audience. Before deciding which social media platforms you will focus on, it can help to understand your niche and target demographic. For example, if you have a food blog, pinterest should be part of your mix because pins about food do very well. If you have an IT company that has a website, pinterest won’t be a good choice.
Although there are plenty of other ways to generate traffic to your blog, these three are the most important and represent the core of what you should focus on. Make these three a part of your marketing routine and once you start seeing results, you can add other traffic strategies to the mix.
